Malawi has some of the finest artists in Africa including poets, musicians, comedians, story tellers, dancers, cartoonists etc. This is why entertainment places keep the pace with other mega developments in the country.
Visitors need not to find weekends boring. Sports lovers can watch local or international matches at the giant state-of-the-art Bingu international stadium located in Area 47. For those who like music, dancing, poetry, drama or comedy Blantyre is the city that produces the majority of these artists; yet the Music crossroads Malawi is the formal school of music located in area 23, Lilongwe. Note: The Vice president, Dr. Michael Bizwick Usi, is one of notable comedians in the country popularly known with a stage name ‘Manganya’.
Some of the venues one can visit for poetry feasts, drama or comedy include Mibawa in Naperi or Blantyre Cultural Centre formerly the French Cultural Centre in the city of Blantyre.
Those who find entertainment in food and drink. Don’t worry; drinking joints and restaurants are the most common avenues found almost everywhere one happens to be. And if you prefer a real local authentic touch then visit such places as Bwandiro, Bwaila street at the Lilongwe depot, M1 Centre point, Falls drinking centre etc. However, the Ghettos of Malawi try harder to replicate every city life that the rich including those who steal their money (public finance) enjoy. Some of the Ghetto drinking spots are located in Ngwenya, Ntandire, Mitundu etc. Thus, facilities for every level of the economy and lifestyle are available in Malawi, leaving no one behind till the world attain Agenda 2030.
Lastly, tripselect pays tribute to some of Malawi’s fallen great artists: Du Chisiza Jnr (playwriter and dramatist), Lucius Banda (composer and musician), Izek ndi Jacob (Comedians), Bright Nkhata (Musician).
