MYTH: AN ATTRIBUTION THEORY?
GOGO NYANKHONJERA lives on the shores of lake Malawi at Chitimba. The area is the foot of Khondowe mountain on whose top lays Livingstonia/Khondowe plateau, Rumphi district.
NyaNkhonjera narrated a story of Chipiyo, a huge snake that flies across from Khondowe mountain into the Lake. How do natives know that Chipiyo has splashed down into the lake? She explained; “the reddish sun-down horizon across the Lake”, according to Gogo NyaNkhonjera, “signifies the presence of Chipiyo in the Lake”. It’s a myth worth listening to!
