Education in Malawi has a rich history, rooted in the work of early missionaries and later expanded by the colonial government. Today, the Roman Catholic Church and the C.C.A.P. continue to play a vital role alongside the government in providing high-quality educational services across the nation.
Primary Education
The journey begins at the primary level, though private nursery education is a popular choice for many families. Primary education is organized into levels known as “Standards,” ranging from Standard 1 through Standard 8. At the conclusion of Standard 8, students sit for a national examination administered by the Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB), which determines their transition to secondary education.
Secondary and High Schools
Upon completing primary school, students progress to secondary school (High School). This four-year journey is divided by the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examination, which students must pass to enter their third year (Form 3). Students who excel in their final secondary examinations earn the opportunity to pursue higher education at prestigious universities.
